Coleraine Borough Councils decision on future of beaches
Date:05/05/2009 18:32:59

BHS Ireland pleased with Council’s decision to consider future management arrangements for Equestrian Access to the Coast.

The British Horse Society Ireland is pleased to learn that rather than banning horses from their beaches Coleraine Borough Council have decided to consider future management arrangements for horse riding on their beaches.

BHS Ireland’s Off-road Horse Riding development Officer Heather Hoffman, said:

“We were quite concerned we were going to loose what little access we have to off road horse riding in the Coleraine area, which may have had a knock on effect in other parts of the country. It really is such a relief that  Coleraine Borough Council have decided that more consultation is needed before they decide how horses will be allowed on their beaches.

Having spoken with Kieran Doherty, Environmental Department at Coleraine Borough Council we gather that this consultation period will take place over the summer months, to be completed in the autumn, when it will be taken to Council again for a decision.
