Imagine riding around a beautiful privately owned estate; having it all to yourself, on a purpose built trail, designed and created for just you and your horse.  What a wonderful change from having to cope with the ever increasing and sometimes dangerous traffic on our roads. Most equestrians know there is too little opportunity in which to ride safely off road. However, BHS Ireland has created two off road trails, and to gain access all you need to do is become a BHS Toll Ride member.

Grey Abbey Estate Toll Ride

The Grey Abbey Estate is a privately owned property and not open to the general public. The estate’s 6.5km Toll Ride trail meanders through old farm tracks, across streams and through woods on a newly designed purpose built path. It takes you through a little river, across open fields, by a picturesque lake and toped with breath-taking views of Strangford Lough. Purpose built hard-standing parking is available with plenty of room to turn your lorry or trailer. We have even provided a mounting block.

This trial is open 1st March – 1st October 8.30am -8.30pm (Sundays from noon). The remainder of the year it is open on Sunday afternoons from noon.

Mourne Country Park Toll Ride

The Mourne Country Park Toll Ride is also a privately owned estate, not open to the general public. Its 6km Victorian built trail, leads you through ancient broad leaf woods, alongside a beautiful mountain fed river with a towering earthen cliff face on its far side. The trail’s steep inclines are good exercise for even the laziest horse.  The large parking area is adjacent to the golf club where riders can use the facilities and also enjoy a delicious hot lunch, if they wish (clean boots required!).

This trail is open from dawn to dusk 7 days a week and closed for the month of February.
